The King Alfred

Located on Hove sea front, a number of dances and charity events were held at The King Alfred throughout the early sixties, including the second Hungerstop Charity Dance and Miss Teenage Brighton contest.  The latter included a young Alexandra Bastedo, who later became a well established film and TV actress.  The Giants and The Chimes provided the music and the evening was another great success.

The following day at the greyhound stadium the Brighton Beat Groups took on the Showbiz Eleven in a football match; they lost.

Fronting the Groups' team at centre-forward was England footballer Bobby Smith.  The Showbiz team had someone called Sean Connery playing for them!

The King Alfred never held major tours or shows, but had many smaller dance events and concerts.
